Microbiologist
Summary
Specialty in microbial genetics, biochemistry, and/or molecular biology for applied research and development activities for public health issues as they relate to terrorism and epidemiology. This individual will participate in the design of experiments, development of protocols, and evaluation of alternative methodologies, and will conduct experiments and analyze data generated in research studies.
Essential Job Responsibilities Include:
- Conduct research in accordance with stipulated protocols and quality and safety standards.
- Participate in writing proposals for research and development programs.
- Participate in multidisciplinary technology development.
- Write technical reports detailing procedures, outcomes, and observations.
- Prepare and maintain research findings, summaries, logs, and notes, and perform statistical analysis.
- Review scientific publications and databanks for related research findings and correlate with laboratory results.
- Remain abreast of laboratory analytical applications to include changes/enhancements in research studies, laboratory technology, and research standards.
- Prepare research findings and supporting data for peer journal publication, oral presentation, or other dissemination and archiving.
Qualifications
- PhD in microbiology or related scientific field and two years of experience in research and development or the equivalent.
- Experience in Nucleic acid hybridizations, PCR and related methods and/or protocol development.
- Excellent writing and analytical skills.
- Supervisory and proposal writing experience is desired.
- Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation and supporting computer software.
- Working knowledge of laboratory safety precautions and protocols for safe handling and the disposal of hazardous agents, chemicals and materials.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
